Led Zeppelin Stairway to Heaven

One of my favorite songs of all time, arguably one of the best (and longest) songs of all time, is Led Zepplin's Stairway to Heaven. It was released in 1971 and over 40 years on it's still an epic piece of music and has inspired musicians all over the world for years. What's amazing is that while it's one of the most famous rock songs, it was never released to the public as a single.

Miss World 2012 Goes to... Miss China

So China may not have made it to the top of the medals table in the London Olympics 2012 (pipped to the post by our beloved Team US of A ) but they did get this year's Miss World. Miss China (aka Yu Wenxia) was yesterday crowned Miss World 2012 in a ceremony in Ordos, Mongolia of all places!?

I'm not necessarily an advocate of beauty pageants but I have to say that Miss China is pretty cute (think she might have had one of those famous double eyelid surgery ops though). Check out the photos below:

Mick Jagger

I´m not really a follower of celebrities. I prefer to follow the surf But if I had to choose someone it would be Mick Jagger of The Rolling Stones. He´s a legend. He´s been writing and playing music for over 50 years. He´s now reached the ripe old age of 69 and is still going strong (I saw him in concert in 2007 and he was jumping and leaping around the stage like a maniac. Respect.). He´s not only a great musician but an awesome performer. He along with Keith Richards and the rest of The Rolling Stones have changed the face of rock & roll.

The History of the World by a Star Wars Trooper

Star Wars fans and sci-fi geeks will appreciate this... this is the history of the world and its most defining moments played out by Star Wars' Clone Troopers.

It's a photography project by David Eger, a photographer and teacher from the states. He took iconic photos from history and recreated them with Clone Troopers in the image. Some people might argue that he had too much time on his hands but I think it's pretty cool. Read about it and check some of them out below. His next one should be James Bond and the Queen of England jumping out of a helicopter with parachutes circa London Olympics 2012 :

Channel Orange - what people are saying

Everyone's been talking about the highly anticipated album Channel Orange by Frank Ocean (previously member of Odd Future collective). I don't usually listen to a lot of R&B music but this dude's got talent. And unlike other R&B tracks, there's thought and meaning to his lyrics.

He's previously collaborated with Jay-Z and Kanye West before deciding to go solo as a R&B / hip hop artist.

Awesome illustrations

LeBron James Deserves NBA Title

The NBA's Public Enemy No. 1 is no longer the enemy. LeBron James is now a basketball champion so let's give the dude a break and move on! He's gotten a lot of slack over the last year for dumping Cleveland and joining the Miami Heat and his obnoxious boasting on TV about "taking his talents to South Beach" but he paid for it last season when the Dallas Mavericks got the championship and, it has to be said, he played a pretty poor game of basketball.

But you can't deny that James LeBron played one of the best NBA championships in history for the Miami Heat last Thursday night despite his severe leg craps. He was voted the series' most valuable basketball player. And he deserves it. He pretty much held the squad together during this season and took them to the NBA Finals. People need to stop badmouthing him now and appreciate his abilities and accomplishments.

Backpack Turns you into Spiderman

Get this... for all of you guys out there that wished they had Spiderman powers, it could soon be a reality... at least for guys in the military. A team of engineering students at Utah State University have designed a Personal Vacuum Assisted Climber (PVAC). The name doesn't sound very superhero stylee but it's a cool idea.

The system features a vacuum cleaner backpack and suction pads and has enough suction power to hold up to 700 pounds(!) and can be used on wood, brick, glass and other surfaces. But you gotta have superhero strength to be able to carry around the 48 pound backpack. That's pretty heavy!

Top Five Surfing Getaways

Now that summer's starting to kick in, I'm itching to get away on a summer vacation. Some place that involves a lot of surfing, chilling, good food and company. In fact, I've been daydreaming of an empty point break and a deserted beach for days. Granted I live at the beach in California but there's nothing like escaping to unknown shores with your board. Smoking Pot with Barack Obama

Who would have thought the President of the US of A was partial to a joint or two back in the day. Believe it or not, Barack or " Barry" was quite the accomplished marijuana enthusiast in high school and college. And excerpts from David Maraniss' Barack Obama: The Story are proof. Check them out below. The book reveals the elaborate drug culture that the president was subjected to when he attended Punahou School in Honolulu and Occidental College in Los Angeles and the amount of hits he liked to take.

Awesome Base Jump Underwater

As a surf junkie, I love being in the water and love anything to do with the ocean and extreme sports. If I could get away with it, and get paid for it, I'd spend my entire day floating around on the waves on my board.

I've never tried free-diving before but I have a lot of respect for the guys that do it.

Check out this amazeballs video of world champion free-diver Guillaume Nery base jumping underwater into Dean’s Blue Hole.

(FYI: Dean’s Blue Hole is the world’s largest underwater sinkhole, going 663 feet down to the ocean floor in a bay west of the Bahamas.)

"El Loco" Arrested for 49 Headless Bodies

Hey guys, what's up? So I'm a Socialphy newbie and this is my first post (so any points and comments would be much appreciated).

I've been following all the crazy stuff going down in Mexico at the moment with its drug cartels and I came across this news article today. I thought I'd share it with you as it blew my mind. Some crazy Mexican dude, appropriately named "El Loco" from the "Zeta" cartel has just been arrested for the murder and dumping of 49 headless bodies on a highway near Monterrey, Mexico. There's some seriously messed up people in the world. Whatever happened to peace, love and understanding?
