When Mexican vocalist Ximena Sariñana (hi-MEN-a sa-rin-YAH-na) released her debut solo album, Mediocre, in 2008, Rolling Stone gave it four stars and praised it as “one of the strongest debuts from a female singer-songwriter since Norah Jones’ Come Away With Me.” Recording the Spanish-language album was a natural step for Sariñana, who had risen to fame in her homeland as a child actress and had fronted a successful indie band for four years. “In Mexico, people believed in me as an artist,” says the fully bilingual 25-year-old. So when she began thinking about recording an album in English she was confronted with a tough decision: “Either stay in my country, where everyone knows who I am, or start from scratch and convince people that I’m worth it.” She chose the latter.
Seguir leyendo... >>

Your iPhone’s lithium-ion battery is rechargeable but not immortal. It will operate at full capacity for 400 charge cycles, which means using 100% of your battery even if you drain 60% one day and 40% the next after charging it overnight. After that, the battery will operate only at 80% capacity. Typically, the battery lasts two or three years; but that depends on how often you use your iPhone. Despite its limited life, you should get a charger that can probably charge it, and also looks very nice.
Seguir leyendo... >>

Believe it or not, you can learn a lot from a dog

 1) Body Language Is Crucial.

Ever heard someone say, “Ninety-three percent of all human communication is nonverbal“? That’s a mangled attempt to explain a study done by Albert Mehrabian back in 1967, and while it’s not true, dogs show that it’s not all that far off the mark. Dogs, which are actually below Honey Boo Boo on the brains scale, manage to effectively communicate with us and each other without ever saying a word. They can also interpret tone freakishly well. If you don’t believe that, after your dog gets sick and poops in the house, say “Who did this?” in a deep voice and he’ll put his head down, and slink into a corner looking as guilty as if he were personally responsible for Old Yeller getting rabies.
Seguir leyendo... >>

This unique series of celebrity portraits was created by famous portrait photographer Paul Mobley, in collaboration with digital artist Mike Campau. The captivating images feature famous individuals and groups like Mike Tyson, Emeril, Gilbert Gottfried, and the Blue Man Group in behind-the-scenes, offbeat scenarios.

The project, entitled Celebrities, is a book project in which Mobley captured the subjects in more private moments, like backstage, in their homes, and at hotels while they were on the road. We are so used to seeing these celebs all glamorous and glittery in the spotlight, but Mobley and Campau worked to provide a new and different perspective of the already well-known faces.
Seguir leyendo... >>

Why? Because I know from years of experience that this is when the light really gets dramatic and the skies might open up with shafts of sunlight and dramatic clouds, giving me the opportunity to create photos with emotion and energy. Wind, snow, rain, fog—I love all the weather elements. They add texture and dimension to photographs. For practical purposes, I like to keep my shooting gear simple to minimize the fuss.
Seguir leyendo... >>

The Paintings of Young Adolf Hitler

Quaint country churches, stately cathedrals, tranquil countryside, and gentle seaside scenes, all painted in soft, soothing watercolors. These paintings could be the work of an elderly aunt, or even a young amateur artist hoping to make a few bucks selling them to tourists. In fact, the second part is pretty much the truth. Except that the young artist is not just anybody – it’s Adolf Hitler.

Seguir leyendo... >>
