It's usually China that takes the crown for the most amazing firework display given that fireworks are all made in China, there aren't so many health and safety regulations and people are a little firework obsessed over there, but this past New Year, Dubai pulled off one of the most impressive firework displays the world has ever seen atop the Burj Khalifa building.

They set fireworks off the surface of the tallest building in the world (that's 2,723 feet in the sky) generating a half mile spire of fireworks cascading down and around the building to ring in 2012. The fireworks were even themed in the colors of the UAE national flag at times and were choreographed to a specially composed musical accompaniment that mixed Arabic melodies and World Music. And they kept it going for a good five to six minutes.

I'm not the biggest fan of all this tallest building in the world stuff but I have to say this show i pretty impressive. It makes my hometown firework display look pretty lame (although I did enjoy it at the time)

I guess it's worth bringing in 2012 with a bang as it could be our last New Year's ever. According to the Mayans the end of the world is coming this year...
