Here's another shocking story to come out of China.... this really does make you wonder about the state of the health system there.
Last week a woman gave birth to a premature baby at a hospital in Foshan, Guangdong Province and nurses told her that it was a girl and she had died. One nurse then placed the baby in a plastic bag and threw it into the bathroom. Relatives later arrived and asked to see the baby and discovered that it was still moving and that it was actually a baby boy?!? How on earth does a trained doctor or nurse a) mistake whether a baby is dead or alive AND then just discard it in a plastic bag and b) not be able to determine the gender if the relatives are able to...
Fortunately, the baby "boy" was saved and is now in good health.
Apparently the hospital’s relevant officials admitted that the doctor involved "did not use any instruments to determine [gender and vitals], and had only made a judgement in accordance with his experience." Doesn't sound like he has any experience to me...
After the family discovered that the baby was still alive, they filmed the nurse running into the bathroom to clean the baby’s forehead and carry it out for treatment and released the video to the media. Mixed in the video are the infant’s family’s angry rebukes and denunciations, but the nurses don't say anything.
What kind of trained medical professional throws a dead baby in a bathroom? It's utterly shameless. If the relatives hadn't discovered the baby, he could have died and it would be murder. Clearly there must have been more to it and people have been speculating that the nurses wanted to sell the baby as a lot of baby trafficking goes on in the area.
Not surprisingly, doctors from Nanhai Red Cross Society Hospital Gynaecology and Obstetrics’s Department remained silent on this matter, and the patient's main doctor Wu also refused to give interviews but third party investigations are taking place.
If you ask me, the hospital should be shut down and the doctors and nurses involved should be all be sacked and lose their medical licenses. It's unbelievable that this kind of thing can go on, especially in the supposedly "modern" up and coming China.
