One of my favorite all time musicians / artist / actor, whatever you want to call him has to be Mr David Bowie (or to his mother David Robert Jones). He's played a major role in the music and film industry over the last forty years due to his distinctive voice, intelligence and off the wall persona.
His golden years were the 1970s, brought about by his famous song "Space Oddity" which remains a classic to this day. I love his oddity.
After a three-year period of experimentation he re-emerged in 1972 during the glam rock era with the flamboyant, androgynous alter ego Ziggy Stardust, spearheaded by the hit single "Starman" and the album The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars. He challenged rock music and popular culture with his wacky dress sense and attitude. In fact I think he's outfits spoke louder than words
He then reached a new commercial peak in 1983 with Let's Dance, another classic and one of my favorites
Throughout the 1990s and 2000s, Bowie continued to experiment with musical styles, including blue-eyed soul, industrial, adult contemporary, and jungle. He's a chameleon if ever there was one.
But one of the best things about David Bowie for me is the movie Labyrinth when he played Jareth, the king of the goblins. There's been nothing quite like it since.
