Though still only 23 years old, Her journey has shone from out of nowhere with bitter sweet songs sparkling throughout the parisian underground scene and to now taking herself onto many stages across the world.
We have to say that when girls of her age were far to busy chasing the souless side of music like ‘X Factor’, Marie flore’s imagination was captured by the sounds of the sixties, foever lost in vinyl to the likes of Joan Baez (whom she owes her name to), Leonard Cohen, Nick Drake, The Velvet Underground, the Seeds, the kinks, and later abandonned herself to the mystic rock of the black rebel motorcycle club & The brian jonestown Massacre. This mixture of old & new influences bares the heart in her beautiful, understated songs. The moment came to put some of them on what should have been a first EP, but finally turned out to be more like a mini album.
‘More than thirty seconds if you please’ is not only the birth of an Independant young artist who knows how to exist far from the commercial record labels, but is also the first steps to a long and successful road.
So its Not surprising that Gregg Foreman (delta 72, cat power) invited her to Philadelphia to record her voice and guitar on some of his songs, like the ‘Soft divide’, the last track on her mini albim.
Less than 2 years ago, demand for her unique sound from outside of the local underground scene led her to embark alone on a modern adventure, to play on tour. Firstly travelling to England, to support her first 7″ released by the uber cool Leeds based Indie label ‘Victrola records’ (today sold out), and then also onto Denmark, Switzerland & Italy. All this travelling and meetings gave birth to the duet that would even make a grown man shiver … ‘Empty walls’ (‘More than thirty seconds if you please’).The frozen and pure sound captured with Mike Noga, member of the excellent aussie band ‘the drones’.
In France, the best musical blogs went mad for her rare & precious shows, especially at La Maroquinerie w/ the new pronographers, At the Trabendo with Isobel campbell and mark lanegan, Cafe de la danse with Teitur, and a long residence at le divan du monde. Like her music, she also takes her sound out of the city with playing shows across the country, even opening many times for Peter von poehl & French tour playing support for the talented Peter Doherty.
On stage, her feet are the band, gorgeous pickings sparkle & roar from her guitar & the beautiful vocals wash over the audience like wave. Armed also with a sampler, her subtle sound screams at you to stop & take notice. Between psychedelism, raw melancholy and inventive pop we found our way… and Marie flore found hers. Marie Flore is currently recording her 1st debut album “By The Dozen”. Marie Flore’s mini album is available On itunes, and also on her myspace
