[Movie Review] Stylish Criminal Movies

STYLISH CRIMINAL MOVIES
My review

Short introduction... all of us know those movies in which the bad guys are fat Italian mobsters or tattooed criminals in jail. Well, those are not the only options, there are some very stylish, charming, charismatic (even handsome) bad boys that make crime look fashionable and all.
In the reviews prepared for today, you are going to find a lot of Guy Ritchie (the ex of Madonna), a lot of Jason Statham and, especially, a lot of testosterone.
Before getting to the actual reviews some final reminders:
1) This post DOES NOT contain download links, just a review to guide your decisions about movies to watch.

Director: Luc Besson
Writer: Luc Besson
Stars: Jean Reno, Gary Oldman and Natalie Portman
Plot: Professional assassin Leon reluctantly takes care of
12-year-old Mathilda, a neighbor whose parents are

- IMDb

Classic movie. Jean Reno plays a superb hitman who has to take care of a little girl who looks after him (a Natalie Portman already magnificent).
Who thinks that crime doesn't have its soft side... never watched this movie. 100% recommended!

Original Title: The Usual Suspects
Year: 1995
Duration: 106 minutes
MPAA's Rating: R
Director: Bryan Singer
Writer: Christopher McQuarrie
Stars: Kevin Spacey, Gabriel Byrne and Chazz Palminteri
Plot: A boat has been destroyed, criminals are dead, and the
key to this mystery lies with the only survivor and
his twisted, convoluted story beginning with five
career crooks in a seemingly random police lineup.
- IMDb

MY REVIEW
Oh man, I love this movie since I first saw it 15 years ago.
Twisted plot, great actors, and a story that keeps shifting back and forth until its climactic ending. One of my all-time favorites. (By the way, Kevin Spacey performance is Oscar-worthy.)

Original Title: Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels
Year: 1998
Duration: 107 minutes
MPAA's Rating: R
Director: Guy Ritchie
Writer: Guy Ritchie
Stars: Jason Flemyng, Dexter Fletcher and Nick Moran
Plot: Four London working class stiffs pool their money to
put one in a high stakes card game, but things go
wrong and they end up owing half a million pounds
and having one week to come up with the cash.
- IMDb

MY REVIEW
Guy Ritchie at his best in his masterpiece. I remember watching this movie thinking how much fun it was, and now looking back I can say that it has set a standard for many other movies to come in the genre.
The funny mess the characters of the movie are in, makes it a wonderful option to watch and rewatch any time!
Recommended.

Original Title: Snatch.
Year: 2000
Duration: 104 minutes
MPAA's Rating: R
Director: Guy Ritchie
Writer: Guy Ritchie
Stars: Jason Statham, Brad Pitt and Benicio Del Toro
Plot: Unscrupulous boxing promoters, violent bookmakers, a Russian
gangster, incompetent amateur robbers, and supposedly
Jewish jewelers fight to track down a priceless stolen
diamond.
- IMDb

MY REVIEW
A lot of people don't give a better ranking to Snatch because they say it's a recycled copy of "Locks and Stock". Well, the fact that it follows the same formula (same writer and director... Mr. Ritchie) doesn't make it a bad movie at all. In my opinion it's even a little better than its predecesor. Why? One single reason: "Brad Pitt". He plays the most funny con artist ever. If not for anything else, watch the movie for Mickey the Gypsy.

Original Title: Training Day
Year: 2001
Duration: 122 minutes
MPAA's Rating: R
Director: Antoine Fuqua
Writer: David Ayer
Stars: Denzel Washington, Ethan Hawke and Scott Glenn
Plot: On his first day on the job as a narcotics officer,
a rookie cop works with a rogue detective who
isn't what he appears.
- IMDb

MY REVIEW
One cop movie between a lot of thugs and gangster movies (you may say)?
Yes, because in this one the veteran cop is just a crooked one. Denzel shows how to play a corrupt policeman perfectly (although I think he has much more perfect performances worthy of an Oscar than this one).
Bad cops, shots and gangs' revenge... what else could you ask for?

Original Title: The Transporter
Year: 2002
Duration: 92 minutes
MPAA's Rating: PG-13
Directors: Louis Leterrier, Corey Yuen
Writers: Luc Besson, Robert Mark Kamen
Stars: Jason Statham, Qi Shu and Matt Schulze
Plot: This film is about a man whose job is to deliver packages
without asking any questions. Complications arise
when he breaks those rules.
- IMDb

MY REVIEW
Out of the three Transporter movies, this is the best one. Out of all the movies we are reviewing today... it's not.
Clichéd for moments, entertaining for others... it's one of those weird mixes that work just fine... making two more movies with the same plot, it's pushing it though.

Director: Matthew Vaughn
Writer: J.J. Connolly
Stars: Daniel Craig, Sienna Miller and Michael Gambon
Plot: A successful cocaine dealer gets two tough assignments
from his boss on the eve of his planned early retirement.
- IMDb

MY REVIEW
I rented this movie some years ago with no expectations whatsoever. I hadn't seen any trailer or read anything about it at all.
And then it blew me away. This is a consistent movie from the beginning to the end. I love every single second of it. And it didn't surprise me at all that Daniel Craig became the new Bond after this. Magnificent!

- IMDb

MY REVIEW
And then when I had lost my faith in Statham he came back with this. Pure genius. A breath of fresh air to the genre and such a roller-coaster ride of adrenaline on my couch at the same time Chev was having it on the screen. Some sex to keep your heart pumping... why not Chelios?

Too many names, too many premises... so little originality. Whatever the plot was I can assure you I had seen it in all the movies above.
It's not a bad movie... it's not an excellent one either. So so.

- IMDb

MY REVIEW
Guy's return. Not more Statham or Jones, but he had Butler now. Not the same but good enough to entertain me for almost two hours. Good, just that... and only because it's a Richie's movie.

Stars: Jason Statham, Robert Knepper and Natalya Rudakova

- IMDb

Idiotic. Faster cars, slower production/writing ideas. Like the 2 previous ones, a pretty girl Frank Martin has to deliver to the bad guys, but at the end he ends up saving her from disaster. Same o', same o'...

- IMDb

MY REVIEW
Not as good as the first one (in my opinion), but as bizarre and frenetic as the original one.
In this one Chev need to recharge the battery attached to his heart to keep living. A battery? Yep, that's as bizarre as it gets... well, without counting that just in the beginning he survives a free fall from the sky. You want crazy... watch this.

We saved the best for last... let's say, for dessert.
Drives is just one hell of a movie! Violent and sexy in equal parts. You can feel the adrenaline, the emotions... taste the atmosphere, go with the mood of the movie all the way. It just one of those movies to enjoy with all your senses.
One special mention to the soundtrack of the movie... the music is just FABULOUS!!!

There are many more to come
Thanks, just talking about what I like the most
So do I
+10 and recommended!!!
We all don't everything (you can say we are all ignorant in a way). I don't know all the movies, but I can talk about the ones I've watched (which is a lot of them
