Remember the Monty Python comedy troupe, Terrence Vance "Terry" Gilliam, is an American-born British screenwriter, film director, animator, actor who has directed some of the most brilliant movies ever made, and some of my personal favorite also, including this jewel from 1985 "brazil"a science fiction fantasy co writted with Charles McKeown and Tom Stoppard in which stars such as Jonathan Pryce, Robert De Niro, Kim Greist, Michael Palin, Katherine Helmond, Bob Hoskins, and Ian Holm represent character of a distorted reality, a parody actually a "dystopian satire" in words of John Scalzi (president of the "Science Fiction & Fantasy Writers of America".
quote:
Brazil's bureaucratic, totalitarian government is reminiscent of the government depicted in George Orwell's Nineteen Eighty-Four, except that it has a buffoonish, slapstick quality and lacks a Big Brother figure
If you haven't seen any of the previous Gilliam's films, or any other of his works except for most renowned 12 monkeys then this might be a good start to get to know this prolific and particular Film maker.
