Continuing with Wednesday's Archaeological Mood for Posts, here's something staggering. Not so much in terms of archaeology itself, these Giant Statues are well known and have been studied for a long time though still puzzles scientis about their significance and recently, why were some of the statues buried up to their shoulders (Out of a total of 887, there are 150 which lies on the slope of a volcano -and are the most famous & photographed- were discovered to have bodies buried which contained petroglyph engravings) So far it's generally accepted that erosion of the elements have covered them.

What's maybe surprising is how come no archaeologist ever thought of it before! Why nobody ever thought of digging or excavating the ground to check if there was anything else to uncover!!
