A Podcast is ''A multimedia digital file made available on the Internet for downloading to a portable media player, computer, etc.''
Podcasts come in different lengths and cover an array of different topics ranging from politics to gossip
What hardware & software will I need?
To create a succesful Podcast it is important to have the correct hardware and software to do the job First of all, there is nothing worse than bad audio quality! This isn't television, the audio is all there is so consider purchasing a new microphone so that the audio quality is top notch. More than a few times I've been put off from Podcasts solely because the audio is either too quiet, fuzzy, difficult to understand or just gives you a headache!
Secondly, you'll want to consider an audio recording software for your PC/Mac. Using a good editing software will save you alot of time and anger when prepairing your Podcast for the web
Misc. equiptment- You may want to consider buying some extra things to improve the ease and quality of your recordings.
Suggested Gear- Here is a reasonably priced setup which is perfect for a first time Podcaster!
Samson CO3U USB Microphone Samson shock mount Generic mic boom stand Pop shield REAPER sound editing software
The above is just reccomended, there are many products out there which will work well also. PLEASE NOTE: The CO3U comes with a desktop tripod stand, however, I reccomend using a shock mount connected to a boom mic stand. This makes it much easier to position your mic if you lack desk space and the shock mount will reduce vibrational noises such as the PC fan, and/or any knocks/bumps to the stand etc.
The Pop shield is placed infront of the mic and reduces the 'popping' during recording where the voice creates a 'Puhh' sound.
I actualy use this setup for my own home recording for video tutorials and such. The audio quality from the Samson CO3U is excellent for the low cost
Feel free to ask any questions or suggest a new post in relation to this!
