Getting an error message that looks like this?

Don't worry that's just Apple's new feature, Gatekeeper, in Mountain Lion doing its job.

quote:

“[Application name]” can’t be opened because it is from an unidentified developer.

Your security preferences allow installation of only apps from the Mac App Store and identified developers.

This error you're getting is the result of the upgrade but worry not, it is a simple fix.

Mountain Lion upgraded your security settings to only allow programs to be installed that are from the App Store or from identified developers.

So how do you fix this you ask? Easy

1) Open System Preferences: Command + SpaceBar and type System Preferences or click on the Apple on the top left and click System Preferences

2) Once there find Security and Privacy or just type it in the search box.

3) Click on the lock on the bottom right to make changes and type in your password

4) Where it says "Allow applications downloaded from" click "Anywhere"

That's it. Your done. The Gatekeeper upgrade looks similar to what happens in Microsoft's latest OS but with this simple modification, you won't have to worry about it ever happening again.
