Over the last few weeks, I've shared with you a few great DIY home beauty treatments that'll save you a few dollars and give you something to do on a lazy Sunday afternoon. Well since these natural beauty remedies have proved such a hit, with me at least (I don't know if they've been working for you?) I've been trying and testing a few more and I've discovered these three winners.
The best way to try these out is to have a few friends around and make a pampering day of it or, alternatively, bribe your boyfriend into trying them with you. Guys secretly love face masks. Boys, if you're still reading this, you may as well go the whole way and give them a go.
1. Olive Oil Hair Treatment
Considering how, well, oily olive oil is, it should come as no surprise that it's a good conditioner for your hair, and it's been proven to give hair a healthy sheen as well as repair split ends and reduce frizz.
To give your hair a conditioning treatment, massage about 2 tablespoons of olive oil into your hair and scalp. The amount you use depends on the length and thickness of your hair. Massage it in well as it's good for your scalp. Massage also helps promote a happy, healthy scalp.
Next, take a warm, damp towel and wrap it around your head and treated hair like a turban. Leave it on for about 30 to 45 minutes. This allows the olive oil to work into your hair to have the full effect. You can give yourself a face mask while you wait.
Finally, rinse out the olive oil with shampoo. This will probably take a few shampoo-ings (I would say at least two). Give your hair further rest by allowing it to air dry rather than blow dry then enjoy the feel of your luscious new locks.
2. Nutmeg, Honey and Cinnamon Miracle Mask
If your skin is feeling tired and stressed then this mask made from nutmeg, honey and cinnamon is just perfect for it. Plus it smells amazing.
Nutmeg and honey act as natural anti-inflammatories, which can reduce swelling and redness in skin. They’re also great for soothing acne scars and preventing infection. In addition, the nutmeg and cinnamon also work to exfoliate your skin when you wash this mask off.
(Always test out the ingredients on your face before you do the full mask just to make sure you're not allergic for example apply a small bit of the mixture to your wrist. You don't want to end up with a big red blotchy face at the end of it.)
To make the mask, mix up 2 tablespoons of honey with a teaspoon of cinnamon and a teaspoon of nutmeg. The consistency should be like a thick paste. Apply the mask gently all over your face and then leave it to set for 30 minutes. Wash it off with warm water and scrub softly in circular motions.
And this is my personal favorite....3. Brown Sugar Body Scrub
Who would have thought it but brown sugar is the perfect way to get rid of dry winter skin or prep your skin for a sun tan. Just mix together half a cup of coarse brown sugar with a tablespoon of honey, a drop of olive oil and 1/4 tablespoon of fresh lemon juice then apply all over your body and rinse off. You'll finish feeling sweet and sugary and your skin will feel ultra-smooth...
If you wanna try all three in one night... I'd start with the hair conditioner then the body scrub and then finish on the bed with your face mask before you fall into a deeply relaxed beauty sleep.. just don't fall asleep with your face mask still on.
