It's a free office suite developed by Lotus Software and operating systems available for Microsoft Windows, GNU / Linux and Mac OS X. Originally came out in 1985 as an integrated application for DOS.
The current development of Lotus Symphony is based on the OpenOffice.org suite and includes it's own tools, in addition to the improvements made by IBM and the provision of lines of code in their own Lotus SmartSuite.
On July 14, 2011, IBM announced it would donate the source code for IBM Lotus Symphony to the OpenOffice project of the Apache Foundation.
