The mighty Apple Inc. has everything it wants in the world and more. Why waste time and money over insignificant matters such as a tiny little restaurant in Luxembourg that uses an Apple as their logo? And suing them for every penny they've got in the process. It kinda makes you sick. Since when did Apple have sole rights over apples?
According to an article I read yesterday,Apple is worried that this tiny little restaurant named "AppleADay" that uses the logo pictured above might confuse their worldwide consumers. The restaurant's slogan is "Balanced Fast Food" and it's a bistro serving "healthy" fast food, run by three young people. It has nothing to do with computers and technology and the local authorities had already approved the name and the logo.
Apple's logo is probably one of the most widely recognized logos in the world and I can't see how anyone would ever confuse it with this small 20-seater restaurant's logo and name?! Yet Apple have ruthlessly called their lawyers in to take action. Where does the threat lie? The restaurant serves drinks, sandwiches and desserts and it's a small independent business in a tiny corner of Europe.
Cease and desist letters have been exchanged, and the three restaurant owners enlisted the help of a legal friend and apparently proposed the following deal to Apple: we'll keep making sandwiches, not computers. Not sure what the outcome was but I hope Apple have quietly backed down.
Apple, you can't have everything. Get a life.
