Battlefield is back with a goal as clear as blunt: develop the best Battlefield experience to date. Your best weapon: Frostbite 2. A graphics engine that not only improves the technical quality of the title, but raised to a more abstract concept. Is it possible that technology is at the service of emotions, and not vice versa? We tried multiplayer first hand to find out.

If we analyze the history of gaming, you probably notice that it has always evolved in a similar way. There are some games that have revolutionized by new technology engines. However, not all power. Sometimes the question is how to handle all that power. And for that, one has to focus on something that does not give the technology.

In the case of DICE, the emotions they have chosen over the polygons. This is not to look at other games when you make your maps, or modeled levels. And that's what the Swedish team has looked for when making Battlefield 3. "When you watch a game like Battlefield Bad Company 2, which is one of the best shooters of last year, it is strange, because when I play now, compared to Battlefield 3, it seems an old game, as three years ago," he said Patrick Bach, executive producer of Battlefield 3. "But it really has been only one year." Contrary to what may seem a good feeling because it means that the conception we have of the shooter will change now after playing the new work is preparing the study.

Just take a look at DICE multiplayer mode that we showed in his office in Stockholm, to witness the change. At first, it is impossible to concentrate on the battle without letting your imagination, sorprendiéndote detail the quality of each of its stages. A Paris park made for one of the maps seems so real that sometimes you imagine what it would be just walking around without a gun in his hand. Suddenly, a bomb exploded next to you. Wall collapses source, trees are shaken by the blast and return to the game. Assault mode, similar to Bad Company 2, is spread over several locations, where defenders must prevent attackers destroy the targets. If the fight does not become unbalanced, Battlefield 3 attackers rewards may appear in advanced areas if a key player survives, managing to create a more effective tactic to avoid having to take walks alone to the place of conflict.

MULTIPLAYER MODES

Conquest: one of its flagships, in whom we have different points of control (in the form of flags) that we have to ensure to get more points than the opponent. The longer endurance, the sooner we will win. Mechanical simple to understand, and addictive as they come. On a PC you can play up to 64 players at once, as happened from the beginning

Assault: Fixed another. Here we have to demolish two special points of an area to advance to the next. One team defends, one attacks. His mechanics are also simple, and very, very addictive. "One more and I leave" will be standard, but never follow it

Assault on squad: Same premise, but instead of massive games, we will do our squad. The rapport with our team will be essential

Team Deathmatch: one against all of life, but by teams. Here even the dumbest of people will have trouble understanding, but will be a drag if we play in extreme mode because there we can kill our allies

Squad Deathmatch: instead of teams of a large number of people, one limited to four. Nothing to go crazy.
