Argentine Photographers XII - Sameer Makarius

Last delivery of this series. I think we got a winner. This guy's work reflects the argentines very well. He has got a rather "neutral" approach, kind of what I personally think, pure photojournalism should be. Anyway, there are some great stills from almost a century ago, these are great pictures of the everyday life in Buenos Aires and some other Argentine cities, such as Villa Gessel, Rosario, etc. Hope you all enjoyed the series as I did!!

One of the most renowned photographers (but also has extensive pictorial) of Argentina.

Born in Egypt (Cairo) in 1924, studied there, then moved between 1930 and 1940 in Berlin, Germany. He returned to Egypt after World War 2, marrying his longtime companion, Eva Reiner Makarius, also recently deceased (27/04/09) and lived from 1953 until his death (9.8.03) in Argentina.

Author of several books, among which the most prominent are "Buenos Aires and its People" (1960) "Buenos Aires My City" (1963) and the more recent "Pictures and texts of artists" (2008), presented in several opportunities at the Museum of Modern Art in the City of Buenos Aires, was co-founder of the avant-garde group "Another Figuration" exposing their cliché verre de Bible Series with Jorge de la Vega, Ernesto Deira, Romulo Maccio, Carolina Muchnik and Luis Felipe Noé in Peuser and Van Riel Gallery in 1961.

As a photographer and historian of photography, organized several exhibitions of Argentine photographers, as well as devoted much of his life to research fotohistórica, collecting pictures from around the world.

As a painter, started in Hungary in 1946, participating in the avant-garde groups, one of the most renowned painters of concrete art of Hungary.
