I'm not usually a fan of digital art. It's not something that really strikes me. However I do really like the digital paintings of Switzerland-based artist Robi Pena, in particular his pseudo-realistic series of provocative "humanimal" pin ups. There's something really alluring about the way he combines feminine characteristics with animal attributes. He merges the idea of a 50s pin up women with something more mystical and they have a sexy yet fairy tale quality about them.
He's played around with rabbits, flamingos, bats and puppies. Some of his images simply depict females with costume-like additions, while others push the limits of humanimal hybridization with horses’ legs replacing people’s and bat wings being attached onto females’ backs which makes me think of ancient mythology.
As you might have gathered, I love flamingos and I particularly like these two paintings below:
Here are some other cool pieces:
He also does quite a lot of more cartoon-ish illustrations still with a fantasy quality. If you want to check out more of his work, here's his website: http://www.robertopena.ch/
